Prior to joining the MDes team at Jacobs Institute, Gwynne Keathley served as Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore) where she provided leadership to sixteen art and design graduate programs and three research centers. While at MICA, she advanced initiatives that enhanced the value of graduate education, strengthened the graduate community, and set the research agenda for the College. Keathley also launched The North Avenue Knowledge Exchange, a collaborative, justice-oriented, free-school program with community-partners in Baltimore.
Prior to MICA, Keathley served as Vice Provost at Philadelphia University and Associate Provost at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles. She also held the position of Associate Professor at Parsons School of Design, where she directed the Integrated Design Curriculum and chaired the Department of Core Studies. Keathley has taught project-based courses in design research and developed design-driven community-based projects in Brooklyn, the Dominican Republic and Kosovo.
With a B.A. from Yale University and a Masters in Architecture from Harvard University, Keathley worked as a designer, researcher, curator on exhibitions with Diller + Scofidio and Lyn Rice Architects. She is currently pursuing an MBA for Executives at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
