Gaze Through the Second Sex

Gaze Through the Second Sex is a corset consisting of 31 reflective components that flip to reflect the gaze of the audience. It questions the power dynamics between the one who gazes and the one who is being gazed by applying an eye-tracking interface. When an observer is approaching and gazing the one who wears the corset, their eyeball direction will be captured. The corresponding components on the body will be flipped to mirrors to reflect their eyes.

This wearable design is inspired by the escalating conflicts among gender issues, feminism topics, sexual harassment, and non-verbal sexual violence that takes place in quotidian life. Through this project, we would like to magnify a gender topic to question the status quo of the social relationship between male and female.
