Discover the MDes Studio!

The Berkeley MDes Studio is a vital unique element of the program. It is our primary space of creativity, innovation, inspiration, and collaboration. It defines us, our values, and our culture. It is both fixed and flexible. It is a place where we learn, question, and celebrate our emerging practice as Berkeley MDes scholars.

During the last year, MDer leadership, students, and Studio Officers worked together to shape the physical spaces, resources, tools, and culture of the MDes Studio.

The MDes Studio is located in Jacobs Hall rooms 210 and 220, occupying the entire second floor of the building. It is now home to both cohorts for a total of 58 MDes students. A 3040 square foot area (283 square meters) with dedicated desks, storage and lounge areas, tools, and prototyping and fabrication resources. The MDes Studio is adjacent to the Jacobs Makerspace, giving students a plethora of options for their designs and prototyping work.

The MDes Studio is a unique learning and collaborative space and we are already excited about the dynamism and creative work that comes out of it.
