“Reframe. We are architects of change. We are iterators that explore ideas, constantly shifting the frame of thought to discover new solutions. We naturally uncover underlying problems in the fabric of everyday life, leading to small or large innovations. We think systemically and bring about a meaningful shift in perspectives.”

Reframe features student projects from the Designing Emerging Technologies course, and is part of the three day Jacobs Spring Design Showcase. Designing Emerging Technologies is an intensive, project-based studio course that focuses on the design of interactive artifacts realized through the process of deeply engaging with selected emerging technologies as rich creative material.

This year, students designed a measuring tool for the kitchen using their own understanding of ‘measuring,’ based on thorough user research. Students have developed a mindset that considers the lifecycle of objects beyond just the user’s interaction with them, looking at manufacturing techniques, materials, material sourcing, energy harvesting, end of life, durability, and joy of use. Their aim is to make practices around sustainable computing the centerpiece of their emerging technology artifact.
