Join Berkeley Architecture and the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation for the culminating exhibition of the Speculative Ecologies Lab (SEL), an experimental, week-long initiative led by Berkeley Architecture’s Room One Thousand 2025 fellows Amy Franceschini (Futurefarmers) and Andrew Mernit (Something & Son).

Over the course of this week, SEL artists have been joined by seven UC Berkeley students (four of them from Berkeley MDes) for a speculative creative project engaging the diverse ecologies of the Bay Area. Through immersive field inquiry across the North Bay and East Bay, they are exploring new ways of knowing, collecting, and interpreting place—experimenting with how field research might take shape beyond traditional methods.

This Friday from 6-8 PM,  Lab participants will share their experiences in an evolving, as-yet-to-be-determined form—perhaps through relational objects, spatial interventions, or other unexpected means. Stop by the Bauer Wurster lobby & courtyard to see how it all unfolds!
