The MDes is hosting Katy Strong and Tesh Goyal, two UC Berkeley alums, who will discuss the importance of UX @ Google and how it is an essential part of the company. Katy and Goyal will share their personal journeys from school to Industry work and how their current roles fit into the business. They will also offer advice for students thinking about careers in User Experience.

Katy Strong – UX Manager
Katy leads UX Design at Stadia, Google’s game streaming platform. She manages an interdisciplinary team of interaction designers, visual designers, UX writers, and UX engineers who are building a more inclusive, accessible place for people to play their favorite games. Prior to Google, Katy led UX content strategy on teams at Facebook, where she launched some of the first AR/VR products for consumer audiences, including the Facebook AR camera, Spark AR camera effects platform, and Oculus Quest VR headset.

Tesh Goyal – Senior UX Researcher
Tesh is Head of UX Research against online harassment at Jigsaw, Google where he manages research on reducing toxicity in online conversations by leveraging the power of Machine Learning models like BERT. This includes doing research and/or creating experiences for targets of harassment, moderators, developers, and creating equitable ML models themselves. Previously as Head of UXR for Google Cloud IoT, he impacted strategic direction setting for multiple streams including vaccine delivery management and hospital management. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University, has been a Heidelberg Laureate Forum Fellow, a RWTH Research Brand Ambassador and his work has been published and awarded in top-tier HCI conferences, including CHI, CSCW, ICTD, and UBICOMP.
