Welcome to Berkeley, MDes 2025!

We’re thrilled to welcome the fifth cohort of our Master of Design program to Berkeley! This year, we experienced our most competitive admissions process yet, resulting in the selection of 47 outstanding individuals. Each student brings a unique set of skills and perspectives, ready to contribute to our vibrant community over the next three semesters.

Our new cohort showcases a diverse mix of backgrounds, with strong representation from design, technical, and interdisciplinary fields. We’re particularly excited to highlight the inclusion of two Arcus Social Justice Corps Fellows and one Mastercard Foundation Scholar. Their unique experiences will enrich our discussions and projects, creating a deeper understanding of the social dimensions of design.

With students from 10 different nationalities, we are fostering a global exchange of ideas and cultures. Additionally, the gender distribution in this cohort stands at 77% women and 23% men, marking a significant milestone as the highest percentage of women in any Berkeley MDes cohort to date.

As we move forward, we invite everyone to join us in welcoming these talented designers and innovators. They are ready to make a meaningful impact in the world of design, and we can’t wait to see the creativity and collaboration that will unfold over the coming year.
