Chuxuan (Claudius) Ma

Yo, this is Claudius. I’m a designer and builder. I love creating products, and you’ll usually find me in Jacobs working on side projects. Outside of work, I tango at SF milongas, sail out of the Berkeley Marina, play guitar on my patio, and appreciate the harmony from Hibiki on Friday nights.

A bit about me: I’m originally from China. Growing up, I was what you’d call a “bad student”—my GPA hovered around 2.0 before I made it to UMich. But I’ve always had a passion for designing and making. I started out as a jewelry designer, designed products for the Winter Olympics. Over time, I realized the limits of design alone and stepped into entrepreneurship. I’ve led two teams and secured over $55K in non-dilutive funding from Contrary Capital and UMSI.

Now I’m here in the MDes program. I want to dive into this disruptive era—not just to keep pace with a fast-changing career, but to imagine the future of our species alongside all of you passionate builders.
