Daiwei (Vivian) Chen

Bio

Daiwei Chen is a designer and philosopher exploring the emotional and ethical boundaries between humans and machines. With a background in philosophy and interactive media, she creates critical and playful experiences that examine how desire, technology, and self-regulation intersect in everyday life.

Her work often takes the form of sensor-driven installations, speculative objects, and participatory systems that challenge users to reflect on overstimulation, digital pressure, and the impulse for control. Before joining the MDes program at Berkeley, Daiwei studied philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh and developed a range of interdisciplinary projects that blend aesthetics, humor, and systems thinking.

At Berkeley, she hopes to collaborate across disciplines to build more emotionally intelligent, socially reflective, and conceptually grounded futures.
