Jacob Kritzinger

Bio

I’m Jacob from sunny South Africa.

I started off my tertiary education and career path by studying at a chef school and working as a chef in Cape Town. I moved onto studying architecture and completing my masters in 2017. In my master’s thesis I concentrated on how architectural structures, with integrated bioremediation zones, could be a catalyst in the rehabilitation of abandoned diamond mining operations. After my architectural studies, I started a company which designed and built custom 3D printers and laser cutters according to specific client needs, while also producing 3D printed models for international architectural conferences. Moving on from my start-up, I worked in a small architectural office which primarily designed large scale university buildings. I am currently designing and producing one-off furniture pieces for private clients and loving it! Work aside; I love cooking, hosting dinner parties, making, off-roading, camping and travelling.

What are you most looking forward to in the MDes program?

I’m most excited about working with such a diverse group of colleagues and really getting stuck into the integration of code into my physical/mechanical designs.
