Karthika Baiju

Bio

I am a Designer with deep empathy for users, an Engineer who loves solving technical challenges, and an Artist who loves to color outside the line. Before Berkeley, I worked as a Software Engineer at Microsoft where I started learning about design.

I am also a massive advocate of ethics in design and look forward to working more on this topic during my time at Berkeley. I am interested in Ethical Design, Systems Thinking in Design, Accessibility, and Inclusive Design and how they are associated with digital products and solutions. Design is not one size fits all. There are a lot of nuances in the communities and the people that we try to help. As designers, we should never ignore that our solutions will affect different people differently.

Born and raised in Kerala, I love the green, the rain, and the connection with nature. As an artist, working with green and earth tones is a way for me to connect back to my roots. I auction my paintings to raise funds for different charities. I hope to continue this contribution in the future.

What are you most looking forward to in the MDes program?

I am looking forward to the opportunity to work on innovative and impactful projects. Berkeley MDes combines two things I am passionate about, Design and Innovative Technology. Hope to learn a lot from my fellow cohort members.
