Matthew Schmitz

Bio

Hi! I’m Matthew. I’m a design engineer with a background in mechanical engineering, sculpture and software engineering. I first fell in love with design while studying sculpture at Durham School of the Arts. I went on to study mechanical engineering at Brown University with a focus in product design, and after graduating worked designing manufacturing robots at Shopbot Tools. A self taught coder, I’ve also spent several years working as a software engineer at startups in Silicon valley, including at Stripe, where I worked to improve the onboarding experience for new users.

I’m passionate about developing interfaces that are easy and delightful to use, designing in a way that is good for the planet, and building products that level the economic playing field.

Outside of work you can find me performing improv comedy, swimming in the San Francisco Bay, or building in wood & clay.
