Salih Berk Dincer (Berk)

Bio

I am a designer and engineer from Istanbul who fuses design, media, and science to create experimental atmospheres to redefine the interaction between humans, the environment, and machines.

Pointing out daily life issues and finding design solutions for them is the way I am dedicated to walk. Art can entertain, raise awareness, shock, and provoke an emotional response; science improves these effects and provides you a ground full of inspiration. Thus far, all of my projects, from designing a non-intrusive and aesthetic water bottle to encourage people to drink more water to a fashionable wearable to prevent wrist injuries,  have the same motivation behind them; impact on people’s daily lives.

The world we live in faces many problems, from global warming to pandemics, educational inequities, informational insecurity, among many others. These problems are hard to solve precisely because the traditional solutions we have implemented until now have not been sufficient. So we all need a hyper boost of creativity to solve these problems. Our times call for a new kind of solution, one that is human-centered, more interactive, less designed for static existence like hanging on walls but more prone for dynamic interaction and powered by technology.

What are you most looking forward to in the MDes program?

I really appreciated how our cohort socialize together even before the program starts. I am highly looking forward to collaborative works.
