Sarah Fathallah is a designer, researcher, and educator, who specializes in applying participatory and trauma-responsive design approaches to the social sector. They have worked on engagements of all sizes in over 30 countries, on topics ranging from labor rights, to reproductive health, and housing justice. Their projects have included work with nonprofits, foundations, and social enterprises such as the International Domestic Workers Federation, the International Rescue Committee, and Open Society Foundations, to name a few. In addition to being a lecturer for the Berkeley MDes, they serve as an Adjunct Professor at the California College of the Arts, teaching in the MDes in Interaction Design.

Sarah graduated from Sciences Po Paris, where they majored in International Business and Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Affairs, and studied Design Innovation at the Paris Est d.school. Over a decade later, they are back to being a graduate student, this time at the University of Cambridge, where they are researching AI Ethics and Society.

Outside of their paid work, Sarah’s engagement in organizing, mutual aid, and political education continues to challenge and inform their work and praxis.
