Hi, I’m Kathy, an AR/VR and product designer based in NYC. I graduated from Pratt institute with a bachelor degree in industrial design and a psychology minor. My focus areas at Pratt were wearable design and smart textiles. Living in the East Coast, I had many opportunities to participate in all kinds of hackathons. 2017 was truly a turning point in my career. In that year, I won the grand prize of VR at the MIT reality virtually hackathon. I realized that AR and VR are truly what I love. And I’m able to utilize both my product design and psychology skills.

From then on, I dedicated all my time to AR/VR research and development. I won 5 AR/VR hackathon prizes at the MIT Media Lab from 2017 to 2020. In the future, I’m excited to continue my research and find more HCI design solutions for emerging technologies.

I look forward to starting a new journey in the west coast and working with my UC Berkeley peers. Feel free to reach out to me if you’re also a big fan of AR/VR. 🙂

What are you most looking forward to in the MDes program?

Everything! I’m looking forward to learn from each other and continue exploring in the design field.
