On November 14, 2020, Adam Huth (MDes Spring 22), David Zhou (MDes Spring 22), Effie Jia (MDes Spring 22), Franklyn Bucknor (MDes Spring 22), came together to participate in CMYKxBART Designathon, a day-long design competition hosted by Innovative Design. By the end of this day-long virtual design event, the team’s work won second place!
The CYMKxBART Designathon invited UC Berkeley student teams to explore new approaches to some of BART’s most iconic features including train profiles (both legacy and new cars), BART system map, and BART’s relationship to the Bay Area in order to expand the merchandise line of t-shirts, sweatshirts, stickers and mugs. The target audience was intended to reflect Bay Area pride, transit enthusiasts and/or children.
With their winning entry, the MDes student team, named RGB (Rad Golden Bears), aimed to symbolize the diverse, yet connected culture that represents the Bay Area and passengers of BART. Exploring themes of people, places and culture their proposal targeted Bay Area residents and locals, ages 15-22, with great pride in the Bay Area and a discerning taste in fashion and street wear.
